Sooo… remember what I said about shoot every day? Here’s a great example:

If you know me personally, you know that I will do a lot of unreasonable things (per normal standards) for a photo. I will wade with my camera strap in my teeth to the middle of a swift moving stream, crouch in the water, and shoot until my lips turn blue. I have been known set up my camera at night in the cold New Hampshire fall and shoot star trails like my life depended on it. I have been out in cold Massachusetts springs to shoot moonrises over ponds. But that doesn’t begin to even cover the number of rickety chairs I’ve stood upon, on my tippy-toes, or the number of times I have been 2 feet from a bison in Yellowstone and it’s baby (unbeknownst to me), while shooting *something else*. Oh yes. I have done some unspeakably dumb things for photos. So no one will bat an eye as anything out of the ordinary when I see wild roses on the side of the road, I pull over and shoot them. That’s just me, predictable as the day is long. Not to say that pulling over for roses is dangerous, just illustrating my willingness at the drop of a hat.

If you know me personally as well, you know I am forgetful. Oh yes. I will leave the most important things at home. If it’s not attached to my body (in this context, it is safe to assume that my camera is indeed a limb of mine), I will forget it. This is probably why my car looks like a fabric fairy threw up in it— I have taken precautions to overcompensate for my forgetfulness by always having clothes and prop fabrics with me. 

Back to the story. I see beautiful wild roses growing on the side of the road. I make a U-ie, pull over and take a couple shots. I knew in direct sunlight, I could not do them justice, I had to take some home with me to shoot. Whipping out my car keys, I sawed through a couple stems with my rainbow unicorn medallion (right next to my post office key) until I had a bunch of them. They were very thorny, and when I was through my hands bled, but were the victors in the thorn vrs hand situation. I put the flowers in water (from a bottle in my car) and brought them in the office so they wouldn’t wilt in the hot car while I was at work. 

So yes, to answer your question, I did forget them on the desk. But because I made a promise to myself to shoot every day, I hadn’t put off shooting until I had better light or more time tomorrow. Which is why I can show you them right now.

So, you may not be as forgetful as me, but that doesn’t mean you will have less of a benefit shooting everyday. If you act on your passion, it must manifest in a return for you. For me, that return is pride in sticking to a goal, and even more of a reason to continue.
